One Room Challenge: Week 3

Regular blog readers might be wondering, how in the heck is Jen going to make a room design plant related. Is she just going to stick some plants in the room? Kind of boring...

Nope, no living plants here! For this week's installment of the one room challenge, I worked on an art project I've wanted to try for a loooong time - string art! Based on an inspiring Pinterest pin, I decided to put a giant string art tree on the empty wall in our spare bedroom!

I started the project by mapping out the shape of the tree with blue painters tape like this...

Then I jumped in with the nails and string (I'm actually using yarn).

Here's where we are now!

Shocking surprise, it's not finished yet. BUT it's actually not that difficult to do at all. The main barriers to me finishing it is 1) I can't do a million nails at once or the neighbors will kill me and 2) it's kind of boring... Slowly but surely I'll add more branches and fill 'er all out in time for the big reveal.

Here are some other peeks into what I've been up to...

A trip to Ikea yielded new shelving Expedit style. Oh hey, you're right. Those shelves aren't lined up like the Expedit cubbies are... seems like someone's been hacking...

Time for some honest truth-making. All of the encouraging comments from last week's failure post made me feel incredible and totally empowered to re-tackle the rug! I had a plan, I was ready to do it, then... I found my rug soul mate at Ikea. It's amazing and I can't wait to show you when it's all laid out! So, I'm abandoning the old rug for good. For those of you who thought this would be an underdog story of victory in the face of defeat, I'm sorry!!!! Turns out this was a love story about a girl trying to pretty up the wrong rug for her. Follow your dreams! Find your true rug love! Wow... I've taken this to a strange place...

Ahem.

That's it for me this week! I'm kind of terrified that the 6 weeks of this challenge are half way gone now... The epic concert marathon I have going on in my cello life is almost over, so I'm hoping to dedicate a LOT more time to this project. Don't forget to check out the other bloggers in this challenge. My guess is they're managing their time a little better than I am ;)
